Tri-Cities Fire @ DSAMC Buddy Walk

by Kinshasa Martin

Sparky and the Tri-Cities Fire enjoyed the day at Howard Amon Park with the Down Syndrome Association of the Mid-Columbia for their annual Buddy Walk.

The Buddy Walk fundraiser brings people together and is a great family day for all. Here we enjoyed the ceremonial one mile walk; attendees are treated to games, raffle prizes, delicious food, music and dancing. An average of 1800 walkers participate in this one day event.

Raffles are held from donations throughout the community to help raise money for promoting acceptance, advocacy, educational and support programs fro people with Down syndrome. The majority of the funds raised at the event come from pledges by individuals and teams.

Sparky had the best time playing with kids as they came and played our football toss game. Two targets were setup and participants threw mini-footballs at the target. Participants and non-participants were rewarded with bubbles and/or candy just for having a little fun and stopping by.

This year was our first year participating in the event. We learned, laughed and had a great time with all the wonderful people at the event. We left already anxious to be able to return to an even bigger event and level of participation than we were able to provide this year.

A huge Thank YOU to DSAMC for inviting us to enjoy the day with you and all you represent. Such joy seeing children smile, laugh and have an wonderful as Sparky entertained while they played our game.
